Righteous Anger = Me Wearing a Dress
If you know me, you would know that wearing a dress is not my favourite thing to do. I could think of so many other things to wear, especially in winter.
However, for those of you who know me, you would also know I have a heart for those who have been exploited or used for pleasure. There are over 40 million people who are trafficked per year. That number is staggering and so hard to wrap my mind around. Once I actually learned more and thought about what I can do, I decided...wearing a dress is the least I can do and something practical.
Why a dress, you may ask? Good question, I have asked the same thing. A dress is a symbol of freedom, a uniform, the flag of the movement. My hope is that conversations will start, awareness begins, questions get asked, answers may never come, however, there is something stirring. A righteous anger is saying, enough is enough. Human trafficking needs to be exposed for what it is.
So, for the past few weeks (all of December) I've been wearing a dress to raise awareness and funds for human trafficking. My personal fundraising goal was $1000 and I can't believe it - because of the generosity of so many people I'm already beyond my goal! THANK YOU!
Now I'm fired up to really blow my target out of the water. There is still time, December isn't over. If you feel those same tugs on your heartstrings or that righteous anger rising up, you can help by continuing to donate, by educating yourself, by engaging in conversations, and by listening to the stories of others.
If you'd like to learn more, please go to IJM (International Justice Mission) for more information and what they do and how your financial support helps those be rescued, rehabilitated and loved.
